Quotes

Another week...more quotes. Again not a great variety and nothing too deeply profound in the reading, just a couple that jumped out at me:

'Cry a lot, but laugh as well. It's how we survive' (p113 Nights of Rain and Stars- Maeve Binchy)
'"No, running doesn't solve everything". He didn't even look up. "You're so right there, kid, but it kind of blocks bad things out for a bit"'. (p164 Nights of Rain and Stars- Maeve Binchy)
'In the end we all have to rely on ourselves. Ourselves and the friends we make if we are lucky enough to make them' (p215 Nights of Rain and Stars- Maeve Binchy)
Over time things fade (Loreal advert for hair dye!- was ironing at the time and the words caught my attention!)
We preach best what we need to learn most (Luther- film 2003)
All my life I have seen a world that hates evil more than it loves good, look to the good. (Luther-film 2003)
The language of the Bible should be like a mother talking to her children (Luther-film 2003)
He goes to his fate hurrying like a bridegroom (Luther-film 2003)
Satan lets us preach in hell, is that a trap or our greatest oppotunity yet? (Luther-film 2003)

Quotes

Just a couple of quotes heard over the last couple of days. been in work mainly and Wiganer's are hardly known for their intellectual capacitations- particularly at the Owls! So most of these are from the Eurovision on Saturday...yes I know- I should have been in Finland for it! But bring on next year (a lovely procrastination right in the middle of finals...beautiful :) )
Just live the mystery, don't try and unravel it. (Taken from a film I saw half of after work this week called 'A Priest's Diary')
This year white is the new black (That's just for you Mis! Said by Terry Wogan the UK presenter of the Eurovision)
We often wish life wouldn't have to change...but it does. (The first line and only line I got anything out of in Fr Steve's sermon this week)
Sorry is easy to forgive, but love is not forgiven, ever. (lyrics from the Bosnian entry for the Eurovision)
Every song is a cry for love (lyrics from the Irish entry for the Eurovision- gotta love em!)
My high heel (lyrics from the Croatian entry- if anyone can explain this song to me I would be more than grateful!!!!)
Let's hear it for Scandinavia, they'll only vote for each other anyway! (Terry Wogan after the Finnish entry)

Eurovision Song Contest

Well North-West Today are reporting on the Stockport singer hoping to lead the UK to the top in the Eurovision, but what were his opinions? Apart from the cocky 'Of course I'm going to win' attitude Daz Sampson favours the Belgium entry. He said however that in the Semi-Final last night he was shocked that they were knocked out as well as how much the Finnish entry "blew everyone away". It seems like Lordi are causing quite a storm already. However Daz ensures us that he will "overcome evil" and soar over the Finnish entry. The result remains to be seen....
Being Foreign

Been musing over the last couple of days about what it is to be foreign. Its been interesting the last couple of months seeing how natural Helsinki became. What I wasn't expecting though was to find everything so strange when I came home. I wouldn't say I fitted in in Finland, obviously- my language skills if nothing else set me aside as an outsider! but yet coming back home, somewhere I've called home for 20 years- nothing seems quite right. There's an air of familiarity about the place but driving on the left side of the road (even thoughI didn't drive in Finland), seeing the Arriva buses, walking through town, green trees hanging over Wigan Road...there's just something about it all which is familiar but not quite natural. This was only confirmed yesterday when I went to mass for the first time since October. Once more there was something familiar about what I used to do every day...and yet something that wasn't quite right. So not fitting in anywhere at the moment how long is it going to take before I've settled in properly??
muppets are us!
come on- a smile wouldn't hurt guys :)

goodbye Finland!
hello England!
home sweet home
